A Must-Watch: NHNA Executive Director, Dr. Ferrier Advocates for NH Nurses
Posted 1 day ago by Carlene Ferrier
Dear New Hampshire Nurses Association members and soon to be members,
We’re excited to share a brief but powerful 5-minute interview featuring NHNA Executive Director Dr. Carlene Ferrier and longtime NH business journalist Fred Kocher. In this conversation, Dr. Ferrier gives voice to the challenges and realities New Hampshire nurses face every day—and why now is a critical moment for statewide advocacy.
In the interview, Dr. Ferrier addresses two urgent issues affecting our profession:
1. The ongoing nursing shortage
She highlights what nurses across the state already know: staffing pressures are impacting patient care, nurse retention, and the overall stability of the healthcare workforce. Dr. Ferrier underscores the need for meaningful, sustained solutions at both the state and federal levels.
2. Federal student loan limits that disadvantage nurses
Dr. Ferrier also brings attention to a little-known but deeply impactful policy change:
Nursing was not categorized as a “professional” discipline under recent federal loan maximum updates, limiting nurses’ lifetime borrowing capacity to $100,000—a threshold that does not reflect today’s educational costs.
This misclassification places a barrier on those entering or advancing in the profession and threatens the pipeline of future nurses.
Take 5 minutes to watch and share
Dr. Ferrier’s interview is a strong reminder of why advocacy matters—and how, together, we can push for the recognition and support New Hampshire nurses deserve.
