ANA President Condemns Deadly Atlanta Spa Shootings

Posted about 3 years ago by Pamela DiNapoli

On Tuesday, March 16, a white man embarked on a shooting spree, killing eight people at three spas in Atlanta, Georgia. The following statement is attributable to American Nurses Association (ANA) President Ernest J. Grant, PhD, RN, FAAN:

"It is deeply distressing that, yet another mass shooting has once again left our nation reeling and looking for answers. My deepest sympathy and sincerest condolences go out to the family and friends of each victim, and our thoughts at ANA will continue to be with the loved ones left behind.

I am especially horrified at reports that the assailant's senseless actions appeared to have been racially motivated, targeting the Asian-American community-specifically women. His egregious acts are deplorable, vile, and discriminatory. ANA joins the American Academy of Nursing in condemning the recent rise in anti-Asian attacks and vehemently denounces all acts of racism, discrimination, and xenophobia.  Click here to read more.
