Legislative Advocacy Training
Presented by the
Commission on Government Affairs
New Hampshire Nurses Association
The people in this picture with Governor Sununu came together to witness and celebrate the signing of HB 1571, which created an alternative recovery program for nurses in New Hampshire.
The passing of this bill was the result of a lot of hard work by a dedicated group engaged in legislative advocacy. Legislative advocacy refers to efforts to influence the introducction, enactment or modification of legislation.
Join us in the 2021 Legislative Season! Learn about NHNA's Legislative Advocacy Council (LAC) and the role they play in supporting the legislative advoacy efforts of the Commission on Government Affairs.
This workshop will give you the foundation needed to join a Legislative Advocacy Council (LAC). There will be four teams of specialty interest.
- Public Health
- Nursing Practice and Licensure
- Maternal Child Health and School Nursing
- Behavioural and Mental Health
Each of the 4 LAC teams will evaluate and select which bills to present at the Legislative Town Hall Forum on January 26, 2021. Then, you may team up with a more experienced advocate and we'll mentor you to advocate at the legislature. It’s not a difficult thing to do, and it doesn’t take a lot of time. It just takes the will to act and speak out for yourself and on behalf of those who may not be able to speak for themselves.
Teresa Rosenberger, Lobbyist representing NHNA, will provide a State of the State overview of bills and issues that the New Hampshire Legislature will be considering in the 2021 legislative session.
You will also learn about NHNA's Advoacacy Tool Kit and the resources available to assist nurses in their advocacy role.
This event is free and 1.5 contact hours are available.
